Region 3 boys Mega Preview

106 lbs

State Credentials

  • Andy Vila (Paetow) – State Qualifier

This weight features a mix of battle-tested veterans and hungry young wrestlers fighting for their first trip to the Berry Center.

Andy Vila enters as the lone returning state qualifier. While he’s taken a few losses during the regular season, his experience and composure in tight matches make him a dangerous postseason threat.

Sebastian Garcia (Bridgeland) has surged in the second half of the year and looks ready for a breakthrough performance. Felix Morales (Clear Lake) has also put together a strong season and will be eager to capitalize on his first postseason opportunity.

The freshman class adds even more intrigue. Andrew Rodriguez (Westside), Diego Granadillo (Katy), and Angel Gutierrez (Cinco Ranch) have all shown flashes of high-level ability. Quarterfinal matchups like Granadillo vs. Moralesand Gutierrez vs. Garcia have the potential to be absolute fireworks and could determine multiple state qualifiers.

Our Picks

  1. Felix Morales (Clear Lake)
  2. Andy Vila (Paetow)
  3. Sebastian Garcia (Bridgeland)
  4. Diego Granadillo (Katy)
  5. Andrew Rodriguez (Westside)
  6. Angel Gutierrez (Cinco Ranch)

Darkhorses

  • Javier Gonzalez (Jersey Village)
  • Andrew Rodriguez (Westside)

113 lbs

State Credentials

  • Fernando Morales (Clear Lake) – State 5th

Fernando Morales has been one of the most consistent wrestlers in the region over the past two seasons. The Clear Lake standout enters as the favorite, with his only notable stumble this year coming against Diego Carvajal (Tompkins), who sits on the opposite side of the bracket and looms as a serious threat.

James Coleman (Cinco Ranch) and Kobe Dutcher (Mayde Creek) represent a strong Katy ISD presence at this weight. Both have battled elite competition throughout the season and are well-positioned to make noise in the placement rounds.

This bracket may not be the flashiest on paper, but it’s loaded with wrestlers capable of winning gritty, postseason-style matches — and those are the ones that decide who’s heading to state.

Our Picks

  1. Fernando Morales (Clear Lake)
  2. Diego Carvajal (Tompkins)
  3. James Coleman (Cinco Ranch)
  4. Rodriguez (Westside)
  5. Kobe Dutcher (Mayde Creek)
  6. Ng (Cy Park)

Darkhorse

  • Ian Calvillo (Bridgeland)

120 lbs

State Credentials

  • Adrian Fierros (Cinco Ranch) – State 3rd
  • Jiovani Hernandez (Paetow) – State Qualifier

Adrian Fierros has been one of the premier lightweights in Houston throughout his career. He may be wearing a new singlet this season, but the results have stayed the same. Fierros enters as the clear favorite and has separated himself from the field with his consistency, pace, and experience on big stages.

The most intriguing storyline sits on the opposite side of the bracket. Two-time state qualifier Jiovani Hernandez could collide with freshman phenom Ryu Calderon (Cy Ridge) in what would be a fascinating clash of experience versus momentum. Hernandez knows how to navigate this tournament, while Calderon has burst onto the scene in his first high school season and looks completely unafraid of the moment.

Our Picks

  1. Adrian Fierros (Cinco Ranch)
  2. Ryu Calderon (Cy Ridge)
  3. Jiovani Hernandez (Paetow)
  4. Jeremy Zamora (Humble)
  5. Diego Guerrero (Cy Woods)
  6. Chase Subora (Foster)

Darkhorse

  • Jacob Shaffer (Clear Lake)

126 lbs

State Credentials

  • Josue Pizana (Katy) – State 6th
  • Collin Tingley (Cy Woods) – State Qualifier

This is one of the most competitive weights in the region, and simply reaching the top four will be a major accomplishment.

Collin Tingley enters undefeated and has put together a phenomenal season. He’s been sharp in every position and has handled high-level competition with confidence. Josue Pizana took a few lumps during the regular season, but postseason wrestling is where he thrives, and he’ll be ready when it matters.

Leslie Hall (Fulshear) is on a mission to punch his ticket to state and will face training partner Luke McChesney (Jordan) in a compelling quarterfinal. That familiarity makes this matchup especially dangerous, and it would be no surprise to see them meet again in the consolations.

Christian Bockari (Cy Creek), Rafael Juarez (Clear Lake), and Mateo Delaisla (Cy Ranch) all add to the depth on the top half of the bracket. This weight is stacked from top to bottom.

Our Picks

  1. Collin Tingley (Cy Woods)
  2. Josue Pizana (Katy)
  3. Leslie Hall (Fulshear)
  4. Luke McChesney (Jordan)
  5. Christian Bockari (Cy Creek)
  6. Mateo Delaisla (Cy Ranch)

Darkhorse

  • Julio Castillo (Clear Falls)

132 lbs

State Credentials

  • Santiago Garcia (Katy) – State 6th
  • Chance Berry (Cy Fair) – State Qualifier
  • Brody Banks (Bellaire) – State Qualifier

Another loaded bracket at the top.

Chance Berry has had a tremendous sophomore season, capturing a CFISD title and stacking quality wins throughout the year. Santiago Garcia has battled through a brutal Katy schedule and comes in battle-tested. While Garcia has taken some losses, a potential matchup between him and Berry feels like a true 50/50.

Brody Banks brings valuable state experience, while the depth behind the top tier ensures that no match will be easy.

Our Picks

  1. Santiago Garcia (Katy)
  2. Chance Berry (Cy Fair)
  3. Gibbons (Cinco Ranch)
  4. Brody Banks (Bellaire)
  5. Xzaevier Rosa (Cy Creek)
  6. Josh Kemp (Bridgeland)

Darkhorse

  • Israel Valentin (Tompkins)

138 lbs

State Credentials

  • Tyler Donnette (Cy Ranch) – State Qualifier
  • Ali Salem (Taylor) – State Qualifier
  • Dylan Clay (Seven Lakes) – State Qualifier
  • Jordan Rodriguez (Cy Falls) – State Qualifier

This weight has legitimate depth and multiple paths to the finals.

Tyler Donnette and Ali Salem enter as the most proven wrestlers in the bracket, both bringing state tournament experience and strong regular seasons. They sit as the favorites to meet late, but this bracket is deep enough that an upset wouldn’t be surprising.

Dylan Clay and Jordan Rodriguez are more than capable of shaking things up, and the overall balance of this field means that every round will matter.

Our Picks

  1. Ali Salem (Taylor)
  2. Tyler Donnette (Cy Ranch)
  3. Taylor (Cinco Ranch)
  4. Dylan Clay (Seven Lakes)
  5. Jordan Rodriguez (Cy Falls)
  6. Fomin (Kingwood)

Darkhorse

  • Coby Rankin (Langham Creek)

144 lbs

State Credentials

  • Andrei Gavaza (Cinco Ranch) – State Qualifier

This weight is loaded with seniors who are looking to finish their careers with a trip to the state tournament after coming up just short in past seasons.

Sebastian Santibanez (Bridgeland), Landon Elrod (Brazoswood), and Ayden Garza (George Ranch) have all put together excellent years and are hunting for a finals spot opposite Andrei Gavaza. Gavaza’s state experience and consistency make him the favorite, but the margin here is thin.

Our Picks

  1. Andrei Gavaza (Cinco Ranch)
  2. Sebastian Santibanez (Bridgeland)
  3. Ayden Garza (George Ranch)
  4. Landon Elrod (Brazoswood)
  5. Declouette (Seven Lakes)
  6. Yelverton-Hirzel (Fulshear)

Darkhorse

  • Austin Ayarzagoitia (Westside)

150 lbs

State Credentials

  • Cayden Miller (Morton Ranch) – State Qualifier

This bracket features one of the most intriguing storylines in the region.

Rueben Castro (Bridgeland) arrived from California and immediately made his presence felt, compiling an outstanding season with multiple quality wins. He has yet to lose to a Houston-area opponent and enters as a strong favorite.

Behind him is a deep group of contenders. Justin Bryant (Atascocita) has quietly put together an impressive record and could be primed for a breakout, though his path is tough with Michael Buscemi (Paetow) and Karson Strahl (George Ranch) looming early.

Cayden Miller has all the tools to win this bracket if everything clicks, and Ruggero Taboda (Seven Lakes) is another wrestler capable of making a surprise run to the finals.

Our Picks

  1. Rueben Castro (Bridgeland)
  2. Ruggero Taboda (Seven Lakes)
  3. Justin Bryant (Atascocita)
  4. Keith (Fulshear)
  5. Robinson (Westside)
  6. Karson Strahl (George Ranch)

Darkhorse

  • Cayden Miller (Morton Ranch)

157 lbs

State Credentials

  • Tristan Forsman (Clear Lake) – State Qualifier

The biggest shock of the district tournaments came when Luis Garcia (Brazoswood) knocked off Tristan Forsman in the District 12 final. That result completely reshaped expectations at this weight.

A rematch is possible, but this bracket is full of landmines that both wrestlers will have to navigate first. Forsman remains one of the most dangerous wrestlers in the field, and his postseason experience gives him a real chance to reassert himself.

Our Picks

  1. Tristan Forsman (Clear Lake)
  2. Werner (Cinco Ranch)
  3. Hernandez (Seven Lakes)
  4. Luis Garcia (Brazoswood)
  5. Reyes (Cy Lakes)
  6. Sekumade (Atascocita)

Darkhorse

  • Cohen Schulze (Katy)

165 lbs

State Credentials

  • Keith Remington (Clear Creek) – State 6th
  • Breyden Jefferies (Bridgeland) – State Qualifier
  • Malcolm Aranda (Cy Falls) – State Qualifier

The seeding at this weight raised some eyebrows.

Somehow, undefeated returning state placer Keith Remington ended up on the same side of the bracket as Breyden Jefferies and Maddox Fritz, while Malcolm Aranda drew the top seed. Why does it matter? Because now the most dangerous stretch of this bracket is stacked into one half.

Remington won’t care. He has steamrolled nearly everyone he’s faced this season and has barely been pushed. If there’s a state title in his future this year, this tournament will do little to slow him down. That said, this bracket is deep, physical, and chaotic — and anything can happen behind him.

Our Picks

  1. Keith Remington (Clear Creek)
  2. Box (Fulshear)
  3. Breyden Jefferies (Bridgeland)
  4. Maddox Fritz (Cinco Ranch)
  5. Malcolm Aranda (Cy Falls)
  6. Saffarinin (Seven Lakes)

Darkhorse

  • Ethan Flores (Brazoswood)

175 lbs

State Credentials

  • Jared Remington (Clear Creek) – State Runner-Up

Jared Remington is on a mission, and there’s no one in this bracket who looks capable of stopping him.

After coming up just short of a state title last season, Remington has been dominant all year and enters as a heavy favorite. Once you get past him, however, this weight opens up significantly. Expect hard-fought battles and plenty of movement in the placement rounds.

Our Picks

  1. Jared Remington (Clear Creek)
  2. Reiser (Fulshear)
  3. Guerra (Katy)
  4. Williams (Cy Woods)
  5. Smith (Cy Fair)
  6. Dice (Brazoswood)

Darkhorse

  • Tyrel Toney (Cy Ranch)

190 lbs

State Credentials

  • Sean Perez (Humble) – State 3rd
  • Saul Gutierrez (Langham Creek) – State 5th

Sean Perez is another wrestler who will only be satisfied with a state title this season — and he has the ability to make that happen. Every time he appears challenged, he simply walks through the competition. He’s the real deal.

Saul Gutierrez presents a dangerous matchup for anyone else in the bracket, and this weight also features a group of bruisers who can grind matches late: Mason Negro (Katy), Ty Reed (Cinco Ranch), and Luke Pullig (Clear Lake).

Our Picks

  1. Sean Perez (Humble)
  2. Saul Gutierrez (Langham Creek)
  3. Mason Negro (Katy)
  4. Rogers (Morton Ranch)
  5. Luke Pullig (Clear Lake)
  6. Ty Reed (Cinco Ranch)

215 lbs

State Credentials

  • JP Smith (Cinco Ranch) – State 4th
  • Zayde Facchetti (Kingwood) – State Qualifier

This is the most anticipated potential matchup of the entire tournament.

JP Smith has been the standard at this weight for the past two seasons, but Zayde Facchetti was one match away from the state podium last year and hasn’t lost to anyone in Houston this season. If they meet, it’s a true toss-up — and a match that could go either way.

Outside of that marquee clash, there’s plenty of talent. Kiran Baichu (Clear Creek), Alexander Escobar (Humble), and Owen Pullig (Clear Lake) all have the ability to break into the top four.

Our Picks

  1. JP Smith (Cinco Ranch)
  2. Zayde Facchetti (Kingwood)
  3. Alexander Escobar (Humble)
  4. Kiran Baichu (Clear Creek)
  5. Owen Pullig (Clear Lake)
  6. Bryson (Tompkins)

Darkhorse

  • Jordan Jose (Clear Falls)

285 lbs

State Credentials

  • Grant Bahnsen (Clear Lake) – State 3rd
  • Ke’Shawn Jones (Clear Creek) – State 6th

We love Houston wrestling, so let’s just say it: we’re rooting for a Bahnsen–Jones trilogy.

District. Regional. State. That’s the story. Their district final last week was razor-thin, and there’s no reason to believe this one would be any different. Expect another tight, tactical battle if they meet again.

Behind them are a few big men trying to break through. Romeo Granados (Langham Creek) and Klenam Attipoe (Paetow) both won district titles and are hungry to make a run, though each drew tough first-round matchups. Don’t overlook Oscar Hernandez (Atascocita) either — he’s capable of stealing one of those remaining state spots.

Our Picks

  1. Grant Bahnsen (Clear Lake)
  2. Ke’Shawn Jones (Clear Creek)
  3. Oscar Hernandez (Atascocita)
  4. Klenam Attipoe (Paetow)
  5. Romeo Granados (Langham Creek)
  6. Clark (Westside)
