Ranked Texas Wrestling

Wrestlers of the Week – Girls: Arianna Beltran – Cy Ranch

Reaching the top is challenging, but staying there is even tougher. Arianna Beltran has been a dominant force in Houston wrestling over the past couple of seasons, and she continues to fend off all challengers. The 107lb bracket at the CFISD tournament was one of the most stacked, featuring both seasoned veterans and promising freshmen. Beltran navigated through the competition and defeated freshman standout Allessandra Toscano (El Paso Eastwood) in the finals to claim the title. With an undefeated record of 28-0, Beltran is now focused on finishing her senior season as a state champion in February.

Wrestlers of the Week – Boys: Vincent Echavarry – Cinco Ranch

In a week filled with major tournaments and impressive wins, Vincent Echavarry had the standout performance, capturing the Allen Outlaw Tournament title with a pin over returning state runner-up Dario Petrucelli (Rockwall) in the finals. This victory came after Echavarry dominated the rest of the bracket, providing a perfect response to his only loss of the season at the Eli Beaty Tournament just before winter break. After making the state podium last year, Echavarry is now focused on climbing closer to the top spot. Performances like this show he’s more than capable of making it happen.

Team of the Week – Boys: Klein

The CFISD tournament stands as one of the largest and most prestigious regular-season events in Texas—and in the entire country—drawing 90 teams from across the region. With fierce competition at every weight class, simply making it to the podium is a significant achievement, and finishing near the top of the team standings is a testament to a team’s strength. This year, the highest-finishing Houston team was Klein, earning our Team of the Week honors.

Klein’s success was fueled by standout performances across multiple weight classes. 120lb champion, #5 Brandon Carrillo, dominated his field, taking down several ranked opponents on his way to the title. The team also benefited from strong showings by #6 Kenneth Nichols, who placed 5th at 113lbs, and Andre Mercier, who put together an impressive run, winning 7 consecutive consolation matches to take 4th at 150lbs. Additionally, freshman Kaulahea Leal made a strong debut at 106lbs, contributing to the team’s overall success.

After spending much of the first half of the season competing outside of Houston, Klein will face more local competition in the second half, and we’re eager to see how this talented team continues to perform.

Team of the Week – Girls: College Park

The Allen Outlaw Tournament is one of the toughest competitions in the state, featuring top-tier talent from across Texas, as well as teams from Oklahoma, Kansas, and Alabama. In a field stacked with elite wrestlers, College Park stood out with an exceptional team performance.

The girls were led by #1 Vanessa De La Cruz, who defeated two of the top freshman wrestlers in the state to secure her title at 120lbs. #1 Landri Von Gonten, competing at 145lbs this week, destroyed the field just as she has at 138lbs all season. College Park also had strong showings from #1 Violet De La Cruz, #1 Anna Vogt, and #2 Jayuanna Ennis, each of whom finished second after falling to elite competition in the finals.

This success wasn’t just about their top athletes, though—College Park also earned key points from Kylie Smith, Alice Chernov, Halo Acevedo, Desiree Romero, and Giovanna Dos Santos. With such a well-rounded performance, College Park made a powerful statement as they set their sights on a state title. Come February, the race for the championship is likely to come down to College Park and Allen, and this total team effort could be the difference-maker in securing the top spot.
